Bioprocess Development: Digital. Automated. Accelerated.

We take bioprocess optimization to the next level with our technology platform for automated microbioreactor (AutoMBR) and stirred-tank bioreactor (AutoSTR) experiments. By combining microtiter plate based cultivation technology with lab robotics, we automate and accelerate your bioprocess development. Our powerful robotic workflows enable automatic process control, including online monitoring, induction, 24/7 sampling, pH control and feeding.

By joining the automation platform with our bioanalytical technology platform and advances experimental planning and statistical data evaluation (Bayesian Modelling), we can offer time-efficient, quantitative process characterization under production-relevant conditions.

Automated microbioreactor (AutoMBR)

AutoMBRs are build on the BioLector technology (Beckman Coulter) for parallelized microscale cultivation in batch or fed-batch mode with online monitoring (biomass, pH, DO, fluorescence) and optional pH control.

Integration into lab robotics (Tecan) improves the reproducibility of experiments and assures high-quality data. It allows for flexibility in terms of specific process requirements (e.g. sampling and dosing). Third party integrations offer additional functionalities beyond the ordinary, such as at-line microscopic imaging of your samples.

Automated stirred-tank bioreactor (AutoSTR)

AutoSTRs are built on four-fold parallelised laboratory-scale bioreactor setups (1.0 L Eppendorf) and are used for bioreactor scale and validation experiments and in-depth kinetic and phenotypic analysis. Integration into the robotic platform provides the same process flexibility (e.g. 24/7 sampling) and data quality as the AutoMBR.
In addition, further manually operated bioreactors (1.0–3.8 L Eppendorf and 30 L Infors) can be used for process development and scale-up experiments.

Analytical Technologies

Mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and biochemical assays are applied for intra- and extracellular target molecule quantification.

Bayesian Modeling

Advanced statistical methods are used to minimise the number of experiments required to screen large parameter spaces, while generating statistically robust and reproducible data sets.
